Massala Mar – Waking up with your ear to the ground

Coffee has the weight of the sun on a gray morning . Birds perch in the trees, feathered weight, but with their claws ringing the branches. The masalas in the trees look like lamps illuminating a monochromatic-green landscape that then lets us see the sea. And then we realize the origin of the name: Massala Mar, a hotel resort in Catembe that can be the gateway to Praia dos Amores (Lovers Beach), with the large rocks carved by the sea chisel and hammer-time that remind us of caves. It is a kind of country house, with capacity to accommodate 15 people, suggesting the intimacy of large families. But there is a green space that allows you to set up tents, wake up with your ear to the ground.

The city is on the horizon, as if the buildings are also floating on the water.

On this shore, boats are stranded on the sand waiting to feel the sea rise a little each time a wave reaches the shore. And it will arrive so many times until the sea can carry the boats on its back.

▶ HOW TO GO

From the city of Maputo it is a 25-minute drive on a tarred road and another 15 on a dirt road. The sight of arrival makes up for the journey.

▶ WHERE TO EAT

Carrying what to eat can always be a good alternative. The kitchen can be at the service of a head of the house or the customer, cooking food on wood stoves. But, if you prefer, you can go back, and in Catembe there are always plenty of restaurants to try.

▶ WHAT TO DO

A picnic in the Cave invokes the memory of other times. Watching the sunrise and sunset is also an unforgettable experience. And you can always just let yourself be, without the commitment to the tourist gaze, almost a meditation.
