Tomás Magumane – LAM as a new family tradition

Cases of families of lawyers, doctors and even pilots are common. Tomás Magumane is the patriarch of a family that loves working in airports. A retired courier for Mozambican Airlines, he is proud to say that he was once a colleague of his son, at Mavalane airport, and he says out loud that he awakened in him a passion for working amongst planes and passengers.

Magumane, born in the district of Zavala, in the province of Inhambane, in 1955, had his first job at a school, as a teacher, and even completed his mandatory military service. However, it is at LAM where he found his vocation and worked for 27 uninterrupted years. First as a freight operator and then as a courier.

From his time at LAM, he keeps good memories, whether of the best or the most difficult moments of his life. He makes a point of stressing that he was always cherished and welcomed by everyone. And, even though he has left less than 3 months ago, the word saudade (Portuguese word meaning a sense of longing) is present in his speech. “During the time I was there, I worked well and never had any problems, so I miss it a lot.”
