Piri-Piri, Maputo’s spicy urban flavor

The famous grilled chicken, a true icon of the restaurant, is another highlight. The combination of spices and the method of preparation ensure that each piece is juicy and full of flavor.

When I look at the architecture of Piri-Piri, the tables, the kitchen, the cutlery, the napkins, the furniture so organized, I briefly feel like a character from a rustic interior design magazine. Maputo is so friendly to anyone who looks at it from inside this restaurant. The busy people passing in the street seem so calm; the speeding cars so slow; even on rainy days, the drops of water seem less wet.

Adversiting

But let me go back to the beginning: walking through the door, sitting down at the table, looking at the varied menu, talking to the waiter and listening to his recommendations is inexplicable. If I were in another restaurant, I would be treated with distance, the waiter would speak in the third person with all the formalities, but sitting in the chairs at Piri-Piri, I feel so much like family. With a radiographic eye, I look for portraits, evidence of the founding of this restaurant, which was opened for the first time on October 15, 1983, reborn from the ashes of the old Casarão Restaurant, which belonged to Manuel Costa Oliveira e Filho. The restaurant has a lounge, a snack bar and a cafè, with space for more than 50 seats.

The dishes served are a tribute to tradition, with the red fish being one of my favorites. Prepared with spices that enhance its freshness and flavor, the fish wins over even the most demanding palates, reflecting Piri-Piri’s dedication to quality and Cost-effectiveness. The atmosphere at Piri-Piri is relaxed, with service that, although discreet, is efficient. The staff, made up of dedicated professionals, ensure that orders are taken quickly, allowing customers to enjoy their meals without delay.
