Castelo Branco Hotel

The quiet near the bustle

The green imposed by the vines that mark the yellow façade makes us think of a garden that refuses to stay on the ground and grows vertically, as if nature did not want to let itself die among the concrete buildings. If where we stay says a lot about the place we visited, the Castelo Branco Hotel fulfills this role of being a representation of what the city of Chimoio is all about, this cohabitation between the green of plant matter and the buildings erected over time. With 57 rooms and three stars serving as its business card, the location puts us close to everything that the city of Chimoio has to offer, but the composition allows privacy for those who see travel as a way to escape the world’s urgencies. We can stay in the garden made of different shades of green, with our bare feet on the grass, while we watch the pool return the silhouettes of clouds to the sky, or we can, in a few minutes, on foot or by riding a motorcycle taxi, be walking along the main streets of Chimoio and have the human experience that makes travelling worthwhile.

The Castelo Branco Hotel fulfills this role well of being a representation of what the city of Chimoio is all about

▶ How to go

Fly with LAM to Vilankulo. From the airport it is a trip of around half an hour by car to the Hotel.

▶ Where to eat

The Castelo Branco Hotel restaurant, located at the front of the hotel, serves a variety of dishes, from surf to turf. But you can always head to the city centre, where there are several restaurants with typical food.

▶ What to do

Climbing Mount Bengo, the big rock shaped like an old man’s head permanently looking up at the sky, is an experience that stays with you forever. But just seeing it while trying to tell the features apart can also be exciting. Walking through the streets of Chimoio, on foot or riding a motorcycle taxi, can offer this much-needed human experience in new places.
