The barbecue house

To give your tongue the taste of barbecue, you no longer need to get your hands dirty with charcoal in the backyard at the weekend. KaXurrasco, established at the junction between Paulo Samuel Kankhomba and Kim Il Sung avenues, in the city of Maputo, offers an alternative experience to a traditional barbecue, without you having to handle knives and fire.

It is the new host in town who makes all visitors feel like special guests. As a starter you can enjoy garlic or cheese bread on a board while waiting for a piece of meat to taste, which includes rump cap (picanha), beef, sausage, chicken, shrimp and squid. Hearts, chicken thighs, vegetables are also served, accompanied by farofa (made of toasted cassava), vinaigrette, grilled pineapple and french fries, everything according to the customer’s taste. KaXurrasco is truly the “house of barbecue” as the literal translation from Chi Changana (language of the southern region of Mozambique) dictates.

The restaurant holds an international standard, and buzzes with the adventures of Chef Daniel, also co-owner, a former football player who today rests his feet and lends his hands to the kitchen.

He tells us that when he left his sporting career as a Brazilian athlete in Qatar, where he was already mixing up ingredients, he headed to Italy where he worked and studied Italian cuisine, and then embarked to Portuguese lands, on this incredible adventure of learning the typical flavors of Portugal.

Mozambique, where he has been for 13 years, knows him in no other profession, and he also cooks Mozambican flavors, sometimes seasoned in a Brazilian, Italian or Portuguese style.

KaXurrasco is an ideal space for meetings of a diverse nature, a typical environment for relaxed conversations. The wooden decoration matches the flavors and purposes of the place, where creativity lives to ensure physical and emotional comfort.

And because barbecue is the perfect recipe for the weekend, on Thursdays after-work is seasoned with poetry and live music, in a lively atmosphere that goes on until the last hours of Sunday.
