Ice Cream – The best combination of freshness and flavour

There are many uncertainties about the origin of ice cream, but one thing is for sure: it is one of the greatest culinary wonders. Among its possible inventors are the Arabs and the Chinese, and we could fill pages with possible theories about the emergence of this delight, but let’s go with the shorter version.

The Chinese have always used ice to cool their food – from there to the invention of ice cream by mixing snow with fruit pulp was a small step. However, there are questions about who might have brought ice cream to Europe. Some argue that it was the Arabs (who called this treat “sberbeth,” or “sweet snow”), but others believe that it was Marco Polo, an Italian traveler from the 13th century, who introduced ice cream to Europe, which he would have learned about during his travels to China.

Doubts aside, the truth is that ice cream became an instant success, with royalty and aristocracy quickly adopting fruit ice creams as a luxury dish. Fortunately, for us mere mortals, ice cream has become popular and is now a treat that not only sweetens our palate but also refreshes us in hot weather. And for the sweet-toothed, even in cold weather.

If you are a lover of this delicacy, you should know that in Maputo there are several artisan ice cream parlours that produce a variety of ice creams. Just take your pick and cool off.
